Yngwie J. Malmsteen Concert In New York: 10-21-08

Despite the passing of our loved kitty-cat Cinnamin, I managed to have a good time at the Yngwie J. Malmsteen concert.

Shortly after arriving, I noticed I'd forgotton to change out the batteries in my camera. "-Dammit…", I muttered to myself.

I'd never heard of ANJ before, but I came to find out that they are a band from Russia with a lead singer that looked like a version of The Joker.

I didn't really "love" any particular song all the way through from start to finish, but I liked bits and pieces of all of them. -Hope that made sense… Their lead guitarist could absolutely SHRED!!!!!

At the end of their set, this shredder personally tossed a pic to me (which I've pictured below) and I shook his hand afterwards in the lobby area where he was selling some CD'S and other merchandise. I kinda felt bad for not buying one when he offered, but hell… -If I can't afford to properly bury my cat, I can't afford a CD.

-I didn't tell him about my cat, and I'm sure he'd rather not hear it.

However, I did give him a business card with the address to my VOX page here, where I said I'd be posting my good pictures of the night.

Yngwie, originally expected to hit the stage at 10 PM, surprised (at least) me and took the stage around 9 PM instead.

-I was this close to the stage.

And boy was it loud!!!!

🙂

(Yea!!!)

They had fog machines set up on both sides of the stage, and as they got going it became more and more difficult for me to get any decent pix, being low on battery power as I was… My friend Evilstang said he'd send me some of what he was able to take, so hopefully I'll be able to post a few more here soon.

Excellently, Yngwie was throwing all kinds of picks out into the audience!!!

-Irritatingly, he threw them neither left nor right. -He threw them out into the middle of the crowd.

"Dammit!", I muttered again. -I was right in front of him, and he threw NONE over my way!!!!

One bounced over by us, but as I was bending down to pick it up, the guy next to me STOMPED his foot down on it, and would not be moved. "dammit, dammit, dammit", I AGAIN muttered to myself…

I spent half of Yngwies show yelling "Throw me a pic!!! PLEASE!!!!!" heh. -Not really…, but kinda…

-Much…

At the end of the show, I went around the barricade (because someone else did) and asked the guitar tech for one, and he tossed one to me!

It made my night!  WOW! -A pic that Yngwie used!!! -Thanks dude!!!

-The Black pic came from the ANJ guitarist, and Yngwie's pic is the white one.

How was his show?

EXCELLENT!!!! There were a few minor "glitches" in the music because he was showboating rather than watching what he was doing but the glitches were minimal. Some songs from his set included "I Am A Viking", "Icarus Dream Suite Opus 4", "You Don't Remember, I'll Never Forget", "Trilogy Suite OP:5", "Rising Force", "Dreaming" (A long time favorite of mine) and some newer things including "Red Demon".

All the songs were capably sung by a man known simply as "The Ripper", (who looked remarkably like a friend of mine…) whom the movie "Rock Star" was based on.

I had a good time despite the death of my cat, the lack of proper concert funds, and the forgetting of new batteries for the camera…

-But getting a Yngwie J. Malmsteen pic made my lousy day into a memorable day.

Thanks to you all!!!

Yngwie J. Malmsteen. -I'm sure it will be AWESOME!!!!!!

From his first album "Rising Force", this is a lyricless piece of music called Evil Eye".

These next two are from the "The Best Of… '90-'99" CD, "Blue" and the Abba cover "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme".
