Well Now, Doesn’t That Just Bite….

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on June 28, 2007 by Dark Knightingale

My mail accumulates for a couple of days before I get to it on a peaceful night off.

Well, I went through the pile of mail that had accumulated over the past couple of days, and began to root through the stack of junk mail, and a couple of bills… Then, I came across one from telling me how they entered my name in to a drawing to win free registration, or backstage priveliges to meet Reuben Studdard.

-And, how I had won… -Free registration..!

Not that Reuben would really want to meet me… But a WAIVED $495 entrance fee… WOW!!! FREE, IF I still lived in Vegas, like I did from '96-2000… -Now, it's around $5-600 just for the FLIGHT there from here, + a hotel stay for the three-day-convention + expenses. -I KNOW. I went in 2005, to Washington DC. (-ONLY an 8-hour drive 'tho… WHEW!!!)

Now, I was nominated for "Poet Of The Year" back in 2005, and I went to their convention in Washington DC. -I didn't win, but I came home with a cool trophy, a medallion, some good memories and some good bragging rights.

I'm sure I'd come home with some more kewl stuff now… -With all that's gone wrong lately (as in the past year and a half), I really don't have $1000 + to throw away in Las Vegas this year, even to TRY to meet Reuben Studdard. -Nor could I even THINK about getting the time off from work. -Wish I could, but…

It just figures. -I win something I can't have…

-Doesn't that just BITE????

(sighs) Well, what else is new…

Back to work I go.

-Heigh ho.

(-Can I even SAY "ho" anymore???)

I’m Still Here, And I Hope To Be For Quite A While To Come….

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on June 26, 2007 by Dark Knightingale

I've only been posting here, like every other day now, but don't think for one second that I'm not nearby.

-Everyday I will, at least look in, and see who's made a posting today, and I will do my best to reply, or at least think about what it is you were trying to say to NOT just me, or us, but to us ALL who "check in" here.

Call it a "Fly By"…. -WHo knows? I MAY post THere, long before posting Here…

-Every day is different…

I LOVE this Vox thing, and I'll try to answer people's postings, and as they make them, and as I have something constructive to add to your thought. Don't think for one SECOND that I'm not at least reading your posts, and ALMost right when you make them, because I AM reading some new things, and when I can.

-I'm just wise enough to know that I won't always have just the right thing to say about some particular topics, at some particular times, and when you've chosen to speak about some certain things, but I'll at least think about what it was you were trying to say, and I promise that I WILL NOT "Hyde" on you, unless you really DESERVE it. (Jeckle and Hyde; inspired by Mainmor's posting today)

-Some peoples' postings are pondered quickly, and answered, while others are just pondered.

There's no offense intended, I just think it's the right thing to do now…

To elevate some…

-Even if it's just between the lines…

See? -I really did break my back to get this far!!!

(he he he OUCH he he he -Just kidding! -I'm fine!)

I added myself to a group called "Best On The Vox", at their request (of course) and posted "Fixin' To Rain" to the site, as decided by a unanimous vote by the members of my Vox neighborhood (the ones who DID respond, that is…). I'm glad to have been asked to participate in this, and I hope it ranks somewhere in their top 50!!! -The copy of this group post is posted after this one.

-I have no idea how many songs they hope to include on this upcoming presentation of the finished product of theirs, but I might consider purchasing one, but maybe ONLY if "Fixin'…" is on it somewhere….

-But, I'd appreciate it better if I was given a complimentary copy for my participation…!

Speaking of lists…, I have one of my own!

I've been listening to some songs with my Musicmatch Jukebox program.

-This is merely a list of what I listened to tonight, so don't read anything crazy in to it. And, this is NOT a ranking of ANY kind! -Merely a list of what I just listened to.

1) "The Phuck U Symphony" LIVE recording by Millie Jackson, around 1980. -Because, as repulsed as my wife was by it, I found it to be both FUNNY and creative, and it's NOT directed at any Vox member here, or anyone else…!

(-Except maybe for Bin Laden, or for my ex-wife…)

But, it's GREAT for ANY "FU" situation that arises in life. -She'll say it FOR you!

2) "Live Wire" – Motley Crue

3) "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" – Night Ranger

4) "High Speed Dirt" – Megadeth

5) "Machine Gun" – Warrent

6) "Mr. Scary" – George Lynch/Dokken

7) "Evil Eye" – Yngwie J. Malmsteen

8) "Sting Of The Bumblebee" – Manowar/Yngwie J. Malmsteen

9) "Bark At The Moon" – Ozzy Osbourne

10) "From Out Of Nowhere" – Faith No More

11) "Fuel" – Metallica

12) "Into The Fire" – Dokken

13) "I Saw Red" – Warrent

14) "In The Dark" – Billy Squire

15) "Spirits In The Material World" – The Police

16) "Heaven Knows" – Robert Plant

17) "When You Close Your Eyes" – Night Ranger

18) Harden My Heart" – Quarterflash

19) "Wait" – White Lion

20) "You Don't Remember, I'll Never Forget" – Yngwie J. Malmsteen

21) "Braveheart" – Yngwie J. Malmsteen

22) "Higher Ground" – Red Hot Chili Peppers

23) "Body Talk" – Ratt

24) "Way Cool Junior" – Ratt

25) "In My Dreams With You" – Steve Vai

26) "Flaminco Diablo" – Yngwie J. Malmsteen

27) "Blitzkrieg" – Yngwie J. Malmsteen

28) "Whiplash" – Metallica

29) "Master Of Puppets" – Metallica

30) "Am I Evil" – Diamond Head/Metallica

31) "Seek And Destroy" – Metallica

32) "One" – Metallica

I think it's OBVIOUS that what I listen to, and what I write is two different things. I think my music sounds like NO ONE but myself, and it's SUPPOSED to, right? The musicians I look up to (some) are a great influence to my songs. But, my songs are mine. -I couldn't afford to purchase the right to sound just like them, nor do I have the desire to.

-I gotta me me for some reason.

-Although I DID play "I Saw Red", by Warrent, on Clearwater Beach (back in the day, among MANY "covers" I've done…) I don't like to HAVE to do "covers". I'd prefer to do a cover song because I felt compelled to do so.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on June 20, 2007 by Dark Knightingale

To "Anna Fantastic"…

After I received your post inviting me to join your group, I posted a request for my Vox friends to vote for one of my songs, out of five, to post here.

My Vox friends voted unanimously for this one, "Fixin' To Rain Again", and I agree with them.

So here it is, and I hope that all listeners find it to be enjoyable!!!

I Had No Idea…

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on June 19, 2007 by Dark Knightingale

My friends, as well as my Vox friends, remember the posting I made concerning the herniated disk in my back…

Well, I went for a follow up with the doctor this morning… -Or, I should say, Physicians Assistant. (I knew in advance that I'd be seeing her, rather than the Doctor again…) Well, after she checked me out, she told me something that kinda surprised me…

As good as I feel now, this herniated disk of mine is permanent.  It is possible for it to "flare up" again, if I'm not careful, (otherwise, I should be ok) But, it is very likely to NEVER fully heal.

(-I'm taking this to mean that it wouldn't be wise for me to do any "Power Guitar slides"…)

I'm going to brood about this for a little while…

-How was your day?

What Would You Do….?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on June 16, 2007 by Dark Knightingale

I received a post from a stranger today, inviting me to pick my favorite song (of mine) and submit it to a "Best Of Vox" compilation CD/project, whatever it is they're planning….

-'Tho flattered at the suggestion,I don't think I have what I'd really consider to be "perfect recordings", and I CERTAINLY don't have any perfect recordings here yet, but I was kinda hoping that someone would find these songs to be enjoyable enough to help to inspire someone to want to help me with their recreation, because I think these songs have a lot of good potential going on here, but…

I like my songs, despite the current imperfections I've allowed you to hear here…  (yeah, and I have a few more I COULD be trying to recreate…) But, they were all done just as good as I could do them, and I have no regrets over any of their occasional musical mistakes. I did as good as I could, and when I could, and it's NOT like I have the luxury of just laying around, playing guitar all of the time…

(Yeah, I try really hard to keep my day job…)

-But, in fact, I'm really kinda proud of all of the songs, and I plan to re-record these songs, and others, as life permits.

But none of them have quite the sound quality of SOME of the recordings I've listened to here at Vox lately.

SO, I guess what I'm wondering is… -Which song would I choose? Which song would YOU choose?

-Could any of these songs hold a favorite to anyone? -Should any of these songs be chosen at all?

Somebody please say something to me when you get a chance. -I haven't heard of any time limit to this strangers request, but I think it might be nice of me to get a reply to this poster within the week.

So PLEASE, give me your thoughts!!!

(-It AIN'T like I'm asking you for MONEY…)

There are only five songs here for you to choose from right now, but I expect that will change in due time.

They are:

* Fixin' To Rain Again

* Nevermore (2002 AND 2006 versions)

* Premonition

* Envision

* See You Tonight

I do hope you find them to be enjoyable, and do be sure to listen to them at a comfortable level!

-Come tell me what you think of them!!!

PS: This is for ANYONE who remembers that long-haired dude, who roamed Clearwater Beach with an acoustic guitar and a dream of a band, then called "Childproof"…. -That was me.

The Things We Do To Kill Our Time….

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on June 13, 2007 by Dark Knightingale

I love videogames for a change of pace. -I don't play them as much as I'd sometimes like to, but it's nice to have them laying around for when I DO get the urge. There's only a handful of games I play on any kind of "regular basis"…

-This is one of them.

Iron Maiden's "Ed Hunter", from 1999.

In this PC game, you are a Private investigator, armed with a gun (with unlimited ammo, and there's other weapons you can pick up as you go along)

-Your job is to follow Eddie where ever he goes, and kill all who get in the way.

It's not the "greatest of games" or anything, but it IS cool when you need something different to do.

This 3-disk set contains 20 fan-picked Iron Maiden songs, some of which you can pick to listen to as you play.

I also sent one to my THEN 16 year-old-son…

Now that I've resolved my major computer problems, I was able to reinstall it to my computer. I played it this morning for the first time in MONTHS, and I STILL beat it on the first try!!! -Well, I used three of the charactors' lives, out of eight, to do it… (-You earn lives as you go along…) -I've YET to beat this game using only ONE life, but it's not something I do every day.

-I could think of WORSE ways to waste some time, than the time I just spent killing some bad people, some demons and some of the undead…. -Isn't that the point of any good game? -To have some fun?

Well, I had fun…!
